Battersea power station had been dormant since the 1980s, and in 2012 it was purchased by stakeholders, which brought years of disuse to an end. The following year works began on its redevelopment into a community of homes, shops, cafes, restaurants, cultural venues, and open space for London.
We have worked collaboratively with Battersea since the preliminary stages of its development, but on September 9th, 2022, I was appointed by our long-standing partners at Octink to assist in delivering a project of an unimaginable scale. The power station was preparing to open its doors to the public.
The client required various elements, such as retail window graphics, illuminated signage, huge banner systems, and hoarding decorations. The target areas were immense and consisted of four levels, two main cores, and surrounding perimeters. In total, over 8,000 square metres of eco- and fire-rated materials were produced and delivered to us for installation.
Working closely with the Octink management team and the client, my primary task was site supervision; however, the role proved much more complex and demanded composure and adaptability.
Our diverse skillset encompassed the unwavering delivery of management, supervision, coordination, installation, survey, customer care, quality control, and photography.
More than 1200 installation hours were dedicated to the entire project from inception to completion, and with the teams combined efforts, the project was handed over successfully and on time.
We were delighted to see the grand opening in all its glory, knowing we had played such a crucial role in its success.
This remarkable achievement later earned the prestigious gold award in the 2023 UK sign and graphics awards.
We continue to support a close working relationship with Octink and Battersea, aiding in the implementation of ongoing branding schemes throughout the development.
